ASH
JENKINS
DJ + PRODUCER SHEFFIELD → SPAIN
For most of his life, Ash has been looking for music he wants other people to hear. DJing gave him a way to put it in front of them. Production is starting to let him make it.

BEFORE DJING
Different music coexisted from the beginning.
Ash grew up in Sheffield in the 1990s, in a house where music ran underneath ordinary life. He remembers washing the car with his dad while Galaxy 105 played dance music. Around five, he was recording himself into a tape recorder and playing a small drum kit.
His dad played eighties soul and R&B, disco, nineties dance and piano house. His mum brought Michael Jackson, Northern Soul and reggae. It all arrived through the same home and car stereo, simply as music—not as separate worlds.
His own route widened the picture: The Offspring, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Papa Roach and Eminem; aggressive rollerblading and the hip-hop culture around it; graffiti, visual art and later a tattoo-shop apprenticeship. His musical identity never developed in a straight line.
SPAIN / THE DIG
The search became a habit.
At 13, Ash moved with his parents to Benalmádena and attended international school. He listened on the walk, through breaks and while he worked. Sometimes a headphone ran down his sleeve so he could rest his head on one hand and keep listening while he wrote.
Locally sold mashup CDs made tracks from different worlds feel naturally connected. The search began running backwards as well as forwards: into older records, samples, influences and the links between music made decades apart. At 16, the impossible goal was essentially to own every song ever made. By 19, that digging had taken him deep into soul and blues without replacing anything that came before.
Finding music was only half the point. The other half was getting it in front of people.
SHEFFIELD BENALMÁDENA LISTENING DIGGING CONNECTING
THE FIRST SHIFT
DJing happened almost by accident.
Around 19, Ash became seriously interested in DJing and spent time in the booth with a friend who was already working. When that friend was ill, he asked Ash to cover. A bar then offered him a night. One shift became another booking, then more venues and regular work.
From around 2012 he was DJing professionally across bars, clubs and karaoke venues in Benalmádena and Fuengirola. The music obsession had found a practical form.

THE DJ
LEARNING
THE ROOM
In 2013, as work on the Costa del Sol dried up, Ash moved to Benidorm and started again from the bottom. Years of frequent open-format work followed across karaoke, cabaret, bar and club environments.
Karaoke taught him to reset a room after its energy shifted. Cabaret schedules meant rebuilding momentum after a show. Live singers meant supporting another performer. Across different crowds and venue restrictions, he learned when a room needed changing and how to adapt quickly when something was not working.

CRAFT DEEPENS
From selection to technique.
Around 2014, scratch DJing and turntablist culture pulled him in. Red Bull 3Style and DMC shifted the question from what a DJ chose to play to what the most skilled DJs could technically and physically do with music.
The curiosity remained the same; the craft around it became deeper.

THE NEXT PHASE
PRODUCTION
WITH INTENT
Production had interested Ash since early in his career, but for years it stayed at the edge of the DJ work. Later he built a dedicated home studio and began treating it as a serious discipline: structured study, extensive notes, deliberate practice, experimentation and his own systems for organising what he learned.
It was never an overnight switch from DJ to producer. Years spent finding and presenting other people’s records gradually became a serious desire to make his own.
THE SOUND NOW
GROOVE-LED.
VOCAL-FORWARD.
BUILT WITH CLUB WEIGHT.
His DJ work remains genuinely open format, while the music he makes is becoming more focused: club records built on groove, strong vocals and hooks, with real low-end weight. House and tech house are a natural home rather than a fixed border; soul, disco, hip-hop, mashups and years of reading open-format rooms still feed the work.
The aim is specific: make records other DJs want to play, collaborate genuinely, release music people look forward to, and build towards international club, guest and festival bookings—an artist identity centred increasingly on Ash’s own music.
